National and Local Youth Groups

Youth Group (SHY)

Shir Hadash Youth Group (SHY) begins its sixth year with great excitement and energy!  SHY offers young people the building blocks for solid Jewish identity through community, learning, leading, mentoring and fun.

The Shir Hadash Youth Group for 4th – 12th graders is open to all children of Shir Hadash members.

SHY is affiliated with the National Reconstructionist Youth Movement, No’ar Hadash, and as part of the larger group, we participate in the Midwest Kallah and the North American Teen Kallah.

Youth Group activities for each age group are scheduled throughout the year after school on Sundays, Saturday nights and at other times.  A schedule of the year’s events and activities will be published early in the school year.

No’ar Hadash North American Teen Kallah (High School)

The North American Teen Kallah will once again be held at Camp JRF in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania.  It will be an amazing weekend of leaderhip development, fun and Jewish living.  Registration forms are available on the No’ar Hadash website (www.noarhadash.org).  See Youth and Camping Chairperson Deborah Newberger for more information.

No’ar Hadash Midwest Teen Kallah (6th – 12th Grades)

The Reconstructionist Youth Movement (No’ar Hadash) will again sponsor a retreat at Camp Henry Horner in Ingleside. for 6th – 12th graders.  We encourage all 6th – 12th grade students to attend this amazing weekend filled with ruach (spirit), fun, learning and play.  A limited number of scholarships are available.  Registration forms will go out in November.  Be sure to fill them out and get them back quickly as space is limited.

Camp JRF

Summer 2009

Camp JRF, the national summer camp for the Reconstructionist Movement, offers a fabulous overnight camping experience to 3rd – 12th graders.  The beautiful and wooded camp is located in the Pocono Mountains in eastern Pennsylvania.  Camp JRF offers a unique opportunity for your child to explore the excitement of a 24/7 Reconstructionist community combined with lots of sports activities and fun. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.  Scholarships are available.  For more information, contact Rabbi Eitan Weiner-Kaplow, Youth and Camping Chairperson Deborah Newberger or check out the camp website:  www.campjrf.org.
