Kita Alef (First Grade)
Judaic Studies Goals
The theme of the first grade year is My Jewish Home & Family. The following will be studied:
- Holidays
- Stories from the Torah
- Doing Mitzvot (Good Deeds)
- Precious Ritual Articles (those found in the home)
Hebrew Goals
Children will become familiar with the sound of the Hebrew language through prayer, song, and some conversational Hebrew. Children will begin to decode, and print the Hebrew alphabet. Hebrew goals will include:
- Identification of Hebrew letters
- Printing the Hebrew alphabet
- Modern Hebrew vocabulary for home and family
- Ritual articles
- Child’s Hebrew name
- Basic holiday blessings, plus blessings for candles, wine, bread, food, etc.
Home/School Connection
- Let’s Celebrate: Individual magazines about each holiday to share with families.
